Well, it is 11pm, and I really MUST go to sleep in a few minutes. However, I want to share my recent interests with everyone. I really like CodeIgniter! It’s a PHP Framework. And for those of you who don’t know what that is, it is a system of reusable, often object-oriented, PHP components that provide a streamlined way to rapidly develop PHP web applications without the developer having to ‘re-invent the wheel’ and write all the code from scratch. It is just plain awesome!
I have been looking into it since yesterday, and I keep asking myself why didn’t I check this out sooner. To be honst, I think it was my mindset that has been keeping me back in this area. I guess I felt like I needed to prove myself as a developer by doing my own work from scratch, and building everything with my own still. However, this method is way too under-productive. Although you learn a lot about the nitty gritty of programming, you end up wasting a lot of time in doing so, and not putting in enough time in getting the job done, and developing something that is actually useful.
Using CodeIgniter, I hope to get a couple projects at work on stream. There are many great tutorials about using CodeIgniter. My favorite so far is the day 6 video tutorial by Jeffrey Way at Nettuts.com. I am learning a lot, and I feel empowered now, more than before. PHP is good, but the PHP framework CodeIgniter is just awesome! I’ll try to post some time later to let you know what I have accomplished with this.
